MTV's VMAs Almost Underway & List of Nominees
MTV's 2003 VMA Awards is almost underway. Chris Rock is hosting, so there is no telling what will happen. This year's awards will be held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City on August 28. The VMA's will air live on MTV starting at 8 p.m. ET. Christina Aguilera and Coldplay are the first performers announced. More performers and presenters will be made public soon, according to MTV.
Missy Elliott leads the field going into the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards with eight nominations including best video of the year for her clip for "Work It," the groundbreaking video and single from her multi-platinum album, Under Construction. Following closely behind is Justin Timberlake, who received seven nominations, including five nods for his video for "Cry Me A River" and two for "Rock Your Body." "Cry Me A River" is also in the running for video of the year.
Country music legend Johnny Cash earned six nominations for his cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt." The clip is also up for video of the year, best male video, and best direction in a video, among others. The other video of the year nominees? Rapper 50 Cent for "In Da Club" and rapper Eminem for his 8 Mile theme "Lose Yourself."
Artists with four nominations include Jennifer Lopez, whose "I'm Glad" is up for best female video, best dance video, best choreography in a video, and best art direction in a video. Other acts with four nods are Radiohead, Queens Of The Stone Age, White Stripes, Christina Aguilera, and Beyonce.
The best new artist category will be a showdown between Kelly Clarkson, 50 Cent, Sean Paul, Evanescence, All-American Rejects, and Simple Plan.
Vying for the viewer's choice award are Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Eminem, and Good Charlotte. The viewer's choice award is the only category that is voted on exclusively by the fans.
